The Autovista Group Residual Value Awards are returning. With the unveiling of the winners only days away, Autovista24 editor Tom Geggus confirms the categories and what to expect.
On 29 November, the winners of the 2024 Autovista Group Residual Value Awards will be announced exclusively on Autovista24. The data-driven honours recognise cars with exceptional residual values (RVs) across eight different categories based on segment groupings, body types and powertrains.
A data-defined approach to crowning RV leaders makes the Autovista Group Residual Value Awards particularly important for automotive businesses. This includes the carmakers, leasing companies and fleet operators.
Last year’s winners included the Mini, the Jeep Avenger, the Mercedes-Benz CLA, the Mercedes-Benz GLA, the BMW i4, the Tesla Model Y, the Mercedes-Benz V-Class, and the Land Rover Defender.

Analysis and awards
The Residual Value Award winners are determined using Autovista Group’s extensive range of data. This means collating, calculating and analysing forecast trade RVs of cars at 36 months of age and 60,000km.
The used-car market data was gathered from July to September 2024 across 17 European countries. This includes Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.
To be considered, models had to fall between the 10th and 90th percentile of the selected category’s horsepower distribution. This was so that the league table did not feature cars with extreme power outputs at either end of the spectrum. Had these models been included, the results of the analysis would have been distorted.
The same approach was used when examining list prices of model variants. Versions at the very lowest price point were excluded, as were those at the more expensive end of the scale. So, no entry-level versions or extreme sports editions were considered. This resulted in a concentration on more mainstream trim lines.
Indexed values
Autovista Group analysis then identified the version of each model with the highest RVs, expressed as a percentage of retained list price (%RV). For each available market, models were indexed by dividing their %RV by the category average.
The Autovista Group Residual Value Awards were determined based on a category’s average index across the 17 selected countries. This was weighted against each market’s new-car sales volumes. Standout results from high-volume markets could then be represented in the final figures.
