Hyundai i10 – Enhanced design, equipment and space
28 May 2020
The new Hyundai i10 is an attractive city car, displaying a rejuvenated, modern and dynamic design. The price of the latest generation has increased but so too has the equipment level. The interior is ergonomic and practical with good build quality. Space in the rear is excellent and boot capacity is large for the segment too. The i10 is even homologated to transport five people, except for lower trim lines in some markets, whereas key competitor models can only legally accommodate four.
A-segment cars are less profitable for OEMs than larger vehicles, and so are becoming rarer these days. The segment is also facing stronger competition from the B-segment, which offers roomier and more versatile cars for an almost comparable list price.
However, as many rival brands are either exiting the segment, including Ford and Opel/Vauxhall, or moving to all-electric versions only, this presents an opportunity for Hyundai. The lack of hybrid or electric versions of the i10 could constitute a threat but electrified A-segment cars are priced high, which is an issue for many customers focusing on city cars.
