Mercedes-Benz GLB – Assertive and versatile

The GLB fills a long-term gap in the Mercedes-Benz SUV line-up, sitting between the GLA and GLC. The new model has an assertive aesthetic personality with its sporty looks and is enjoyable to drive courtesy of the excellent chassis and gearbox. Based on the front-wheel-drive platform that underpins the A-Class and B-Class, it features the latest technology, such as a widescreen dashboard.

The C-SUV segment is trendy and therefore in high demand, but the GLB is pioneering among premium competitors as it offers seven seats, enhancing its versatility. It still provides plenty of room, offering a larger boot capacity than its main rivals in this configuration, the Land Rover Discovery Sport and VW Tiguan Allspace. The key competitors from BMW and Audi, the X1 and Q3, have less interior space and, crucially, are only available with a maximum of five seats.

The GLB lacks a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant, which is available for the BMW X3 and Land Rover Discovery Sport. This could soon change, however, especially as a €2,000 incentive was introduced for PHEVs in France on 1 June and subsidies will be increased in Germany from 1 July.
