JLR offers online car sales, subscriptions, and rentals on revamped digital platform

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has launched a new website dedicated to digital car sales, combining its online car purchasing, subscription, and short-term car-rental services. The manufacturer’s accompanying motto is ‘Own. Subscribe. Rent’, with JLR pitching the service as a way to overhaul the online car-buying process.
Online purchasing has been part of JLR’s sales strategy since 2019, when the car manufacturer rolled out an online showroom and a digital buying facility to offer its premium cars to a wider audience. This gives shoppers the opportunity to configure all Jaguar and Land Rover models.
Customers can pay for a car online, with transaction options including cash payment, personal contract purchase or hire purchase. At the same time, consumers get the option to part exchange, with a valuation of their existing vehicle. A finance application and an online deposit are part of the service.
Buying a luxury car online
JLR’s digital sales platform has been updated to make online car buying simpler by reducing the number of steps required. Pricing is displayed at the start of the process and a new document portal holds customer files such as proof of identity.
Uploaded documents can be shared by the customer with a retailer, making transactions more convenient. The updated website also allows retailers to share finance agreements, orders, and other relevant files.
‘More luxury goods and experiences are consumed and shared in the digital space than ever before, and consumer expectations are high for both quality and convenience,’ said Rawdon Glover, managing director of JLR UK.
‘We strive to stay at the forefront of the latest innovations through a rigorous digital transformation and bringing the luxury of choice to our customers is a key part in that journey. We now have a market-leading online experience that delivers ultimate convenience and confidence in a tailored way for Jaguar and Land Rover customers.’
When buying a car online, customers can choose to have their new vehicle delivered to their home. JLR said the newly developed platform will give shoppers more clarity over the status of their orders, with an account area providing live updates.
Car subscriptions and rentals
JLR’s car-subscription service ‘Pivotal’ offers an alternative to owning a car, with a monthly payment covering rental, insurance, tax, servicing, and repairs. Car subscriptions start from £850 (€999) per month.
Subscribers can choose from different membership tiers, also having the option to put a car subscription on hold. Users can swap cars every six months, with JLR saying that early trials of its car-subscription service show 80% of members are new to the JLR brand.
Short-term rental services are also offered, with road-trip rentals available via a premium car hire service called ‘The Out.’ Users can make bookings online or via an app, with JLR saying that ‘in a matter of moments, a Land Rover or Jaguar will be delivered to their door.’
The carmaker’s car-rental service offers on-demand, luxury vehicles directly to people’s homes. The service aims to make pricing transparent with insurance, unlimited mileage, child seats, additional drivers, bike racks and congestion charges all included.
