EV-Box, the Netherlands-based electric vehicle (EV) charging services provider, has announced that it will be acquired by Engie, the French multinational electric utility company.

Engie sees the EV market expanding rapidly as battery costs reduce, vehicle range improves and an increasing number of vehicles are offered. EV-Box sells charging stations, charging management software and services to business, the public sector and residential customers and this acquisition brings their capabilities in-house at Engie. EV-Box has expanded into Scandinavia, Belgium, France, Germany, the UK and the US and, through partnerships, now operates in more than 20 countries.

Thierry Lepercq, executive vice-president of research, technologies & innovation at ENGIE said ENGIE views EV-Box’s acquisition as a strategic step towards a completely new energy paradigm the world is shifting towards. ENGIE and EV-Box share a common vision for electric mobility and a conviction that combining our capabilities provides a rare opportunity to create a global, leading electric vehicle charging player uniquely positioned to offer customers very attractive charging and energy solutions.’
