Fisker reveals all-electric Ocean SUV for 2022

US automotive manufacturer Fisker used the Los Angeles Motor Show to unveil the production specification version of its latest battery-electric vehicle (BEV), the Fisker Ocean SUV.
All models feature a five-seat layout, and the interior will be ‘fully vegan’, using recycled materials including reclaimed fishing nets, old t-shirts, and renewed rubber. This underlines the drive towards sustainability and compliments other global automotive carmakers who are following this trend.
Manufactured by Magna-Steyr at a carbon-neutral factory in Graz, Austria, four Fisker Ocean trims will be available. The Ocean Sport, Ocean Ultra, Ocean Extreme, and Ocean One – the latter is estimated to go from 0-60mph in a time of 3.6 seconds, with a peak horsepower of 550.
The front-wheel-drive, single-motor Fisker Ocean Sport will have a projected maximum range of 402km (250 miles) on a single charge, with a hoped for 563km (350 miles) depending on the specification. ’Our mission is to create the world’s most innovative and sustainable vehicles that are also affordable, and it all starts with the Fisker Ocean as we fully embrace a clean future for all,’ commented Chairman and CEO Henrik Fisker during the launch event.
Bringing Hollywood to the highway
One of the most eye-catching elements of the Fisker Ocean is the vehicle’s 17.1-inch central high-resolution Revolve4 screen. This feature rotates from a default portrait Control Mode, effective when driving, to a landscape Hollywood Mode, available when the vehicle is parked.
As well as this, the Ocean includes the California mode, which essentially converts the vehicle into a near-convertible SUV, lowering the windows and retracting the roof, combined with 21st-century connectivity, with the capacity to have its features improved via over-the-air updates.
Whilst Fisker are yet to confirm specifics regarding the SUV’s battery, the Ocean will allow owners to recharge other BEVs, send power back to the grid, and use their vehicles as a back-up source of emergency power for their homes.
The Fisker Ocean will be available in the United Kingdom from 2023 onwards, and is expected to be cost under £30,000 (€35,746), and could be a competitor for more established SUV offerings from the likes of Audi, BMW and Nissan.
